Bereavement

We're sorry to hear that you're experiencing bereavement, and we want to help during this difficult time. We know this is one of many things to sort out, so we keep the process simple, respectful and free of pressure. You can pause at any point.

Selling on someone else's behalf

You can create the listing using your own name, email address and phone number. There is no need to use the details of the person who has passed away. Collection can be arranged at the property where the scooter is kept, or anywhere convenient for you.

Taking your time

There is no deadline. Offers are valid for 7 days, and if they lapse you can relist whenever you feel ready. Nothing is shared with dealers until you accept an offer.

Documents and registration

You do not need any documents to sell your scooter through ScootValue. However, anything you can find is helpful — the original invoice, user manual, warranty paperwork, battery replacement receipts or service records. These are never a requirement, and we know they can be difficult to locate at a stressful time. If the scooter has a V5C logbook, you do not need to re-register it in your name before selling. The dealer will notify the DVLA using the new keeper slip when they collect the scooter.

If you would rather donate

If you would like the proceeds to go to charity, the simplest route is to accept the offer, receive the payment yourself, and then make the donation directly to the charity of your choice. We work with independent dealers, so we cannot verify whether a dealer is set up to donate on your behalf or confirm that a donation has been made.

Frequently asked questions

What documents do I need to sell a mobility scooter?+

None are required. If you can find the original invoice, manual, warranty or service records they are helpful, but they are not a requirement to sell.

Do I need the scooter registered in my name after a bereavement?+

No — most mobility scooters do not have a V5C logbook or keeper record. If a V5C is present, there is no need to re-register it in your name before selling. The dealer will notify the DVLA using the new keeper slip when they collect the scooter.

Do I need a grant of probate, confirmation, or administration to sell the scooter?+

No. A mobility scooter is not subject to probate, so you can sell it while a will is in execution. You can create the listing using your own details.

Do I need to use the deceased person's details?+

No. Use your own name, email and phone number so all communication comes to you.

Is there any pressure to sell quickly?+

None at all. You can take as long as you need and relist later if the offers expire.
