What the collection team brings
The scooter is collected directly by the buying mobility dealer, or by a courier acting for them. They bring their own ramps and loading equipment and will load the scooter themselves — you do not need to help lift, push or dismantle anything. Collection is free and is included in the price you were offered.
Charge the batteries and find the key
A charged battery lets the driver drive the scooter onto the ramps rather than manually pushing it in freewheel mode, which speeds everything up. Have the key ready, and put the charger, manuals, spare key and any accessories such as a basket, cane holder, cover or crutch clip with the scooter so nothing is forgotten.
Clear the route out
Think about the path from where the scooter is stored to where the van can park: door widths, steps, garden gates and any parked cars. If there is a step or narrow passage, mention it when you arrange the time so the driver arrives prepared. If access is only through a shared entrance or there are parking restrictions, flag that too.
How you get paid
Payment is made on collection, before the scooter leaves. Most dealers offer a choice of cash or bank transfer, though some are bank transfer only. Where it is a bank transfer, the driver will confirm the payment has arrived in your account before leaving. Cash payments are handed over before the scooter is loaded. Have your bank details to hand if you have chosen a transfer.
Paperwork
There is very little. Mobility scooters need no road tax, MOT or V5C logbook, so in most cases nothing needs signing. If your Class 3 scooter has a V5C, hand over the new keeper slip and the dealer takes care of the rest. Keep a note of the dealer's name and the amount paid for your records.
